Stop Ringing in Ears - What Really Can Help You?

Ringing in ears (also called tinnitus) is a condition that affects as many as 25% of the population at some point in their lives. The condition causes a ringing, swishing sound in the ear canal and can often be debilitating. Common causes of tinnitus include ear infections, allergies, wax buildup, meniere's disease, carotid artery narrowing, temporomandibular joint disorder, jaw disorders such as TMJ, and acoustic neuroma, among others.

It is not known why some people get tinnitus while other do not. Tinnitus is not the same as hearing loss or cochlea aberrations. Tinnitus is classified as hearing loss when the sounds cannot be heard by the person who has the tinnitus, but there is no measurable loss of hearing quality. Tinnitus is also classified as cochlea aberrands if the ringing in ears can be heard by the person with the tinnitus but there is measurable reduction in hearing quality.

If you have tinnitus, there are several treatments available to stop the noise ringing in ears. Medications, alternative treatments, and surgeries are available for treating the ringing in ears. The doctor you see should be able to help you find the treatment that will stop the ringing in ears for good.

Medications are commonly used to treat tinnitus. If your tinnitus is caused by hearing loss or other medical cause, medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) will probably be helpful. Acetaminophen works by blocking a certain pathway in the brain that is responsible for hearing loss. Another common medication used to treat tinnitus is paracetamol. Paracetamol, though, is known to cause side effects like headache and nausea.

There are also several herbal remedies available to stop ringing in ears. Some of these herbs are ginkgo biloba, hawthorn leaf, and goldenseal. You can take these herbs to help you hear better but they have not been proven to stop the ringing in ears symptoms.

There are also natural remedies that you can use to stop ringing in ears. These treatments include herbal supplements, vitamin B, and relaxation techniques. Avoiding loud noises and quitting smoking can also help to stop the ringing in ears. A visit to your doctor will tell you if you are suffering from tinnitus and the best way to treat it. If you are experiencing tinnitus, you need to avoid the factors that are causing it. Do not ignore the ringing sound in your ears because it can damage your hearing.
